How you can do Great things in your life

Spark-Some-Action

Imagine a life without a mirror, would you know what your face looked like? No! maybe partially because you would probably be able to see your face or looks on other surfaces other than the conventional mirror we have today. Maybe on the surface of murky waters in the bright sunshine of the day, or maybe on a glass somewhere in the CBD as you go about your business of the day, or maybe even on the screen right on your phone/laptop, when the LCD is off-but without any of these mirror objects that show you your appearance, you would not have a clue of who you are. The mirror has helped you to always remember what you looked like today compared to yesterday. One thing I bet is that you now look different. If not, then maybe u are one of the exceptions and you are somewhat unique and special.

In the previous post I said you are one ambitious child. In it I wrote about greatness and how to be great, by taking from a principle I took from the bible verse in Mathew 20:20-33. Jesus taught that you have to serve many to be great but “how exactly do you serve?” Is the question of the day. There is one principle that I want you to adopt for 2015 and your life beyond, until you die. If you take this and use it, I can guarantee that you will be great, and at least have an impact on someone in your circles at least. That is greatness, impacting someone other than yourself. We often think that being great is being like the big, high-flying rich guy or leader of a nation, or sports star, or most talented. How wrong! If it were so then the world would be lopsided. Why? because there has to be a balance. Not all of us would be big otherwise there would be no one to cater for the seemingly small needs. Some cater for great needs and others cater for seemingly small needs in a great way. No doubt if they did it at a large-scale they would end up being great. Life is progressive, you are born and you grow from small to tall, and at some point you become old and big. That’s the balance of nature. That is why they are big and seemingly small people in the world. But they aren’t, they are just serving a small need in a great way. Forgive my redundant wording!

18-give-up-expectations

As I share with you the principle, I want you to start thinking of where you actually fall in this chain. Believe you me, I saw this in the spirit of God in me, I had to share it with you. It has divine blessing if you apply it as it is and I’m very sure you won’t miss the mark.

Jesus had a great brother who did great things

Jesus brother James, wrote something in His divinely inspired book of the bible, the Book of James, and this something is about ‘doing’. Right now you hear when you read, but there is something that you must do to complete the balance of nature. It must have run in the family somewhere because Jesus Christ was great, and so was His brother James because here he wrote:

“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. James 1:21-27 (New King James Version bible)

looking at oneself

Be doers of the word, not hearers only

After learning you have to do! You learn the theory then you do it. If you accepted the principle in the previous post, ‘one ambitious child’, the principle to serve others to be great. You may as well take this one on board and apply and serve many in your life. In order to serve many people you have to do what you learn here or elsewhere. This is what will get you to a point of greatness. Meeting someone else need that is other than yourself. Be a doer of God’s word and you undeniably earn back what you have done to others and for others. Do the principle of greatness or ambition, serve others. That is what you should be doing by now, if you read the previous post.

Doing great is like facing a mirror and remembering what you look like

“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.”

If you don’t apply what you learn, you will not be great, you will not meet someone else need which is other than yours. You will have failed because if you do not do nothing will happen. Doing is inherent. Each one of us, have helped someone at some point in their life. At may seem small what you did, but in heaven God sees it and says you have done great.

When It comes to the implanted word of God, you will be great if you did. You read it above, now what is left is to do what it says. To be great you have to serve and serve you have to do.

be a doer

It’s not about the high-flying thing

Great people only serve a small need on a wide scale, that is why they are great. Jesus Christ was great because He served the smallest needs of the people on a wide scale. By dying for us and forgiving our sins, each individual had a seemingly small need, to be forgiven of his/her sins. Imagine each individual, in the world and the number of sins they carried and the number of sins we carry today. Jesus paid a price for them. In the previous post I said, greatness comes at a price. Jesus Christ paid that price.

We_Have_Greatness_Within_Us_by_rvpdesignz

Rich people are great because they saw the small need and served it by creating something and then using it to serve the need of many people, businesses are great because of that too. Talented individuals show their talent for many to enjoy, that is why they are great stars. Countries that are great, are great because of this principle of helping many other countries, or the population of their own land. So hear me, take that small need that you always complain about and do what you learnt to solve it but do it with the heart of serving, paying the ransom for many, as Jesus Christ did. Law and behold, you will be great as you impact more and more people. The numbers will eventually increase with time.

This is how you do great things ambitious child, you do! By applying the word of God this way into your everyday life, you automatically become great in heaven too. By not doing, there will be no greatness on earth and neither in heaven. No one will be impacted by this word you just learns. Even worse, you will forget what God requires of you.

My next post is about doing by faith. You may be wondering what faith really is. Faith is acting or doing by conviction. To be great you have to serve, to serve you have to do and to do you ha e to act out of faith. Why faith?

God bless you

“To say the least, share with someone you love, and in seconds you will be great”…maybe their smallest need is to hear this!

Life has no meaning.
“Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life.
It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.”
― Joseph Campbell

3:15 p.m. Rosalyn had but a few minutes to make it inside the bank, conduct her transaction, then race across the street and two blocks over to make her 3:35 bus. On any given day, she would not mind waiting for a later bus, but not today, for her brother was returning from his second tour of duty from a long since forgotten war. She had not seen him in over two years, and could hardly wait to lay eyes upon him, and her hope was, that he was in one piece. She was relieved upon arrival to see there were no lines, in fact, only one person stood awaiting to be seen.

3:22  Rosi was next, but the line had stalled. She looked at her phone, 13 minutes was enough, if only they would finish with him. She began to stress, although there was no reason to, her brother would be there rather she caught the 3:35 or the 4:05. But she wanted to arrive before he made it home, for no reason, just because, it is how she planned it in her mind. She and Nathan, her brother had not grown up very close, but with him gone and in harms way, she felt closer and wanted to make up for all of those years, that they had argued and fought away.  But the man in front of her had plans of his own, which included robbing the bank.

3:28 Joshua Taylor was a desperate man. A hard knock life of his own making, and robbing a bank seemed like his only way out. The bag of money was in the teller’s hand, but sirens could be heard in the distance, and he knew the teller had foiled his perfect plan. He flashed the gun above his head, shouted obscenities and threatened to pull the trigger if the teller did not put the money in his hand. She did as she was told, and everyone hit the floor accept Rosi, who was caught in a daydream. Joshua’s force pulled her back into this world, turned her around with a gun in her back, which held the security at bay. Sirens, now closer, plans had to change. Joshua did not plan for a hostage, but now he had one to take. Car across the street and two blocks over, he raced down the block yelling “Get out of my fuckin way!” with Rosi his shield and the ill-gotten gains, his big payday.

3:35 p.m. Arnold was a good driver. Took the safety of his passengers as seriously as he took his own. Never sped, or wove between traffic, yet almost always managed to reach each stop on time. He had no idea what made him pick up his phone, something he had never done while driving his car, let alone the city bus. When he answered, it was his wife with a grocery list. He hung up immediately after realizing what he did. The distraction lasted only seconds, but seconds was all it took.

3:34 The police were closing in from all sides and there was no escape. But for Joshua there was no turning back, either way he was trapped. He spotted his car across the street and ushered his hostage forward, as she gave him a false sense of security. When they reached the car he shouted for her to “Get in!” Rosi finally aware of her dire straits, decided to disobey, and instead she fled, the other way. He chased after her as the clock hit 3:35. Arnold, on time as usual, but distracted and did not see him in the road, and Joshua had his own distractions, and never saw the bus coming. He flew straight up in the air, than landed hard on his back. He was fully conscious as he lay there, but felt no pain for the fall had severed his spinal cord. The gun went off when it hit the ground, and a bullet exploded from its chamber.  Rosi had escaped her captor and avoided being hit by the bus. But her luck would run out as the live ammo ricocheted off the ground and directly into her head.

What is the meaning of life? It is an odd question, one that defies a right or wrong. One that means everything to some and nothing to others. One that philosophers discuss and theologians dissect and individuals ponder and murderers neglect and mothers rejoice in and daredevils take for granted. Some fight for it and some wish they never had it and end it themselves. What is the meaning of life? Is it to grow old and raise a family? Is it to become rich and famous or is it to give praise to reach the afterlife? How do we decide if a life is worth living or one that should be put to death?  How do we know when our life is complete, when the game is over and it is time to sleep? How can we ever know if we have fulfilled our life-plan, if there ever existed one to begin with. Some ponder some do not give the question any thought. No right or wrong. But  does the same hold true, when we are called upon to decide the meaning of someone else’s life?

On February 20, 1990 Terri Schiavo collapsed in the hallway of her home and slipped into an unconscious state from which she would never recover. For 15 years a battle consumed the life of her family and friends. Her husband believed it was Terri’s wish to die with dignity and not remain connected to a feeding tube, of which it was the only way for her to live. Her parents thought otherwise. They believed that Terri was conscious of the life she was now living and believed there was promise of recovery, although all medical tests proved to be contrary. After rising through the court system, through congress and even touching the president himself, the courts decided since she could not communicate, and since her husband was her guardian, he had the right to decide her fate. On March 24, 2005 the feeding tube was removed. It would be seven days later before Terri Schiavo flatlined and eventually laid to rest.

Dr. Jack Kevorkian, also known as Dr. Death became the nation’s self-proclaimed euthanasia expert, even advertising in Detroit newspapers as a death counselor. It is believed he assisted with over 130 suicides, but each patient or client ( I am not sure of the proper term) would have to press the button to administer the drug or gas that sealed their fate. Terminally ill patients, whose bodies were racked with pain, were his initial clients, but somewhere along the way it appeared he was playing God. He would defy his own thesis, of a patient needing to be in their right mind, by bypassing counsel with a psychiatrist, often assisting with their deaths, less than 24 hours after he was called. He would eventually be convicted of second-degree murder and imprisoned for his crime, but it is important to note, that his services where initially acquired by each of the patients, for it was their wish to end their life, only seeking him out for support.

2:35 a.m. Two armed guards stood outside of Joshua’s hospital door. However, none were needed for he was not going anywhere, but his screams at his diagnosis were enough to drive a man insane. He was told by the doctors of the injury to his spine, one from which he would never recover, and had loss full use of his extremities below the neck. Joshua screamed that he did not want to live. To kill him now and end his terrible life of misery. But Joshua was not terminal and no such demand could be filled. One floor down and four rooms over, Roslyn’s brother collapsed when he heard the news. His sister was unresponsive to every test they performed. Her heart was beating and she had a pulse, but no blood flowed to the brain. Still wearing his uniform, and aware that his sister needed him to be strong, Nathan collected himself and stood proud and stoic and asked if anything could be done. The doctor responded “We’ll run a few more tests and monitor her throughout the night, but I’m afraid the inevitable will have to be accepted, the damage to her brain will leave her in a vegetative state and dependent on life support.

A Gift for Jesus

a-gift-for-jesus-karinas-thought1

Yesterday was our 1st wedding anniversary.  In accordance with our agreement, we were not celebrated with a romantic candle light dinner or something, yet we have decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the orphanage and held a Christmas celebration together with the orphans. Why we had an idea like that?  Because we just want to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a slightly different way and coincides with Christmas day. We just want to share blessings and happiness to those who in need. For both of us, had a lunch with the orphans, played around and sang together with them was the most romantic moment. However, here I don’t want to talk about our celebration but I want to talk about something important that I got from it.

When the orphans made Christmas decoration contest, I found something that made me moved. I saw a little girl put a manger under her Christmas tree. The interesting thing is there were two babies doll in that manger. Why there were two babies? I wondered.  “Why you put two babies in your manger?” I asked. Then she replied with innocent voice, “Ma’am, I do not have anybody but I have Jesus. I do not have anything as a gift because I’m poor. Therefore, I want to give myself as a gift to Him. Both babies it was me and Jesus. I thought I could accompany him and give a little warmth to Jesus. That’s all I can give.”  To be honest, that little girl answer was jerking my heart and made me not able to hold my tears. What a very touching and heartwarming answer. I was thinking that God said the same words like that liitle girl: ”  I want to give myself as a give to you. Both babies- It was you and Me. I thought I could accompany you and give you a little warmth” Then My husband said. “Today we have got precious lesson from this little girl”

When Christmas comes, we are always busy with preparations to celebrate Christmas. We are busy thinking about Christmas gifts for our friends and families. The question arises in my mind. If we have prepared the best Christmas gift to those whom we love, what about to the figure that actually we celebrate? Jesus! Whether we have prepared a gift for Jesus? And what kind of gifts that is pleasing Him? Before we answer those questions, I ask you to once again reflect on the true essence of Christmas.

Jesus came to this world with an important purpose. He came to save and redeem our sins. Based on the great God’s love, He came to rub out the world’s sins and paved the way to us into the salvation. This is not trivial. Let’s ponder who we are so that we are so precious in the sight of God to be saved? David once questioned this thing when he was mesmerized in awe as he looked at the beautiful sky.

What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

(Psalm 8:4, NIV)

Have we made a big contribution so that God be indebted to us and should to pay us? Are we so holy flawless so that God feels guilty if He does not save us? No! Indeed, we are human beings who often doing sinful things, we still often disappoint God with all our behavior which not pleasing before God. Even so, in fact God still love us. Even though God created this universe so beautiful, we are the mankind still the most precious creations that created in His image itself. As written in Genesis 1:26 (NIV):

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

And we also crowned with glory and honor,

You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. (Psalm 8:5 NIV)

Therefore, our salvation was become an important God’s agenda and was based on His Greatest love to us, and He granted upon the humans.  Grace is not a grace when given based on logrolling. It is precisely because we are not worthy but God still gave. That is called a grace. The Holy Bible describes this thing so beautiful and touching,

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (John 3:16 NIV)

What a greatest love of God which is able to move His heart for sacrificing of Christ to replace all of our sins on the cross, pay in full  our sins, and deliver us from the curse and bring salvation that supposed not be worthy for us to have. All of it is merely based on His Great love to us. Imagine how our lives today if Jesus did not come into this world and redeem our sins, break the shackles of sin and the curse, replacing us on the Cross and saved us from the death. How horrible our lives!

With very long and tiring journey the Magi from the east came to Jerusalem to worship the Baby Jesus. But their tiredness was gone and turned into the joy when they saw the star. (Matthew 2:2, 10 NIV) If we look at the previous chapter we can see what the angel said to Joseph through a dream,

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us) (Matthew 1:21-23 NIV)

Let’s ponder to the meaning of Immanuel. The birth of Jesus to this world brought very big impact to our life journey and salvation. And that’s supposed to be the source of our joy in welcoming the Christmas day. If God gave a tremendous gift to us, what can we give to Him? Let’s to be honest how often we forget this. We often ask to God to fulfill all our wishes, but how often do we think about what we can give to God as the most beautiful gift and pleasing to God?

Now back to the previous question. Whether we have prepared a gift for Jesus? And what kind of gifts that is pleasing Him? In fact most beautiful gift we have to prepare and give to Jesus is our heart. That is a gift that can please God. God wants our open hearts, gentle, willing to be formed, trust in Him, and always truly love and worship Him. We may not like a little girl in the orphanage who did not have anything. We may be able to give very expensive gifts, but once again we have to remember that God does not want any of it. A heart that the fear to God, clean, ready to receive Christ to dwell in it, and also a heart  that full of love for our fellow human beings, just as Christ loved us. This is actually God wants from us.

One day a scribe said, “To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” (Mark 12:33) Then what Jesus’ response?

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”(Mark 12:34 NIV) So it is so clear through these verses we can see what the real gift we can give to Jesus. Heart that loves God and others, that’s a very beautiful gift to give to us in celebrating the birth of Jesus in the world. Furthermore Jesus also said:

‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’(Matthew 25:40 NIV)

The Lord Jesus does not require worldly gifts in the form of goods, jewelry, materials and or something like that. What will please Him is the love to God (love in vertically) and to each other (horizontally). Loves come from the heart. So heart that fully leads to Him and centered to His will, will become a very beautiful gift to Jesus.

My dear readers, Christmas is a moment in which we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ to the world as the  form of greatest gift from the Father to redeem for our sins and bring we out of death to enter the eternal life. Let we sanctify ourselves, admit our sins, and ask God to forgive and cleanse our hearts. As God commanded,

Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong.

(Isaiah 1:16 NIV)

God is always ready to give forgiveness, even restoring joy when we turn from the way of evil and return to His ways. As God said,

“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)

Let us have a sacred heart as clean and white as a snow and eventually will be worth as a beautiful Christmas gift to Jesus our Lord. Amen.

My beloved readers, this post will be my last post this year. I will come back next year. I, my husband, and our little Andrew say “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” to all of you. You all so precious for us and we are so blessed to have you all. God bless you.

What is truth? Posted on

The whole world is filled with LIES. People lie to each other. (*Admin*: Even to themselves.) If you listen to the news the media lies to you, preachers lie. Even the closest of companions lie to each other sometimes about little things. So the question is: WHAT IS TRUTH?
Jesus Christ is the TRUTH. He is the WAY and the LIFE and the TRUTH. If you want to know the TRUTH in anything, ASK JESUS. Seek Him with all your heart, ASK Him and He will guide you into the WHOLE TRUTH.
The only ONE whom you can really trust, the only one with perfect knowledge and wisdom is Jesus Christ. SEEK Him, ASK Him, TRUST Him, FOLLOW Him and He will guide you into ALL TRUTH.
May Jesus bless you.

Lessons from a Baking Disaster

Posted at 10:52 am , on December 16, 2014

I read my assigned dishes on the Christmas party invite. “Please bring: an appetizer and knoxblocks.” Knoxblocks, it turns out, are Jell-O jigglers. I did not know this. Probably because I hate Jell-O and all of its relatives, and I have zero Jell-O-making experience. But how hard can it be right? Stir and set. No problem.

Except that I’m a perfectionist to the worst degree. Since having kids, I’ve learned (very slowly and painfully) to let some of it go for the sake of my family’s happiness, but too-high expectations still creep up on me more often than I would like to admit. It’s weird how I get that way with only certain things. For my appetizer dish, I threw frozen meatballs in a crock pot with a sauce made of ketchup and grape jelly and I never had a second thought about whether that was too easy or not festive enough.

With other things (like the Jell-O), I get all Clark Griswold about it and suddenly I’m attempting something totally unnecessary and unrealistic. The problem isn’t that I get overly ambitious. The problem appears when my grand ideas don’t come to fruition. I get beyond frustrated and all the fun gets completely zapped.

Even though I know this about myself, plain red and green Jell-O was out of the question. A simple Google search led me to this recipe by The Pioneer Woman.

That’s it! That’s what I’m making. Forget that I’ve never even made regular Jell-O or that this recipe was about a million steps (and nine layers!) or that Ree opens her post by saying “I sure hope these instructions don’t confuse the heck out of you.”

Still, I set up a station and got to work on layer number one.

20141213_171128

I poured the first red layer into my dish and carried it to the fridge. Now, Ree says each layer takes 15 minutes to set. It turns out this is not true. I even chilled it an extra ten minutes, but when I added the green layer, it busted right through the red layer and became a purplish-brown goo.

This is usually where I lose it. This is where I start storming around cursing everything from my ambition to Ree’s inaccurate instructions.

Only I didn’t lose it, much to my surprise. Instead, I poured out the goo and reassessed my remaining ingredients. I decided to simplify to three layers and try again. This, of course, meant that if I screwed up a second time there would be no Jell-O at the family Christmas party. And is that really the worst thing? It’s not like I’m supposed to bring the turkey.

This is something I’ve been working on for awhile – the ability to confront my expectations before I go off the deep end. Sometimes I get so caught up in making things special and perfect and festive that I lose sight of the real reason behind the celebration. Holidays are supposed to be fun, and the process of preparing for the fun shouldn’t be stressful or aggravating. If it is, then it’s time to lower the expectations, or at least remind yourself that the day will still be special even if a few details don’t work out.

So I started over with a double green layer and let it set for nearly two hours before adding a double white layer, which set for another two hours before I added a double red layer. This is how they turned out…

20141214_110143I was so proud, guys. Not just because I successfully made layered Jell-O for the first time ever, but because I actually had fun doing it, even though it didn’t totally go as planned.

At the party, I got a lot of compliments on my Christmas Jell-O, and nobody knew that the real recipe has nine layers or that my first attempt was a total disaster. And do you know what? Even if there had been no Jell-O at all this year, I’m pretty sure no one would have noticed that either.

John 18:22-24 (Where Is The Justice) / December 12, 2014 / Daily Walk:

Then one of the Temple guards standing nearby slapped Jesus across the face. “Is that the way to answer the high priest?” he demanded.Jesus replied, “If I said anything wrong, you must prove it. But if I’m speaking the truth, why are you beating me?”
Then Annas bound Jesus and sent him to Caiaphas, the high priest. (John 18:22-24)
Read: 1 Corinthians 4:1 – 7:40
Relate: In Matthew 5:39, Jesus commands, “If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also.” But here in his own trial, it appears that He doesn’t follow His own maxim. Annas asks Him what He has been teaching. Jesus responded that He’s been teaching the same thing, publically, all along. Ask anybody.” At this the guard slaps Him for being disrespectful to the high priest (who isn’t really the high priest). Jesus’ response: “If I said something wrong, prove it. If not, why the attack?” Jesus did not turn the other cheek but rather spoke out against the injustice, the illegality of what the guard just did.
React: There are three valid responses to this which all show that there is no contradiction between what Jesus is saying and what He does. The first of these is that in Matthew 5 Jesus is talking about personal, man to man, relations. Even though lawsuits and court are mentioned, His focus is on a person’s relationship with another person. If someone wants to take you to court, settle the matter before you get there. (Matthew 5:25) If they do sue you and demand the shirt off your back, give them your coat as well. (Matthew 5:40) These are person to person responses, not directives for what to do when at a trial. Matthew 5 does not over Jesus, or any of us, exercising our legal rights when we do find ourselves in a legal situation.
The second thing to note is that Jesus didn’t respond with violence. He didn’t return strike with strike. He did nothing to stop the blow and He did nothing to retaliate. All He did was question the validity of the action against Him. As Matthew Poole writes, “Our Savior could easily have revenged himself upon this officer; but, to teach us our duty, he only gently reproves him, and lets him know that he did not behave himself as one ought to do in the face of a court of justice.”
The third thing to keep in mind is that Matthew 5:39’s turning the other cheek is itself a demand for justice. Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr among many, many others took their cue for nonviolent resistance straight from the Sermon on the Mount. When you are going the extra mile with the soldier’s pack, you are causing him to break the law. A Roman soldier is only allowed to force someone to carry his pack a total of one mile. By going further, you are getting him in trouble. But what is he going to do, take it back through violence? Then again, he will be getting in trouble. There is no way out for him. When you give the man who took the shirt off your back your cloak as well, you are in effect stripping down before him. Now by jewish law he, because he saw your nakedness, is unclean. You have effectively interfered with his ability to come before God until he has gone through ceremonial purification. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, basically, they have backhanded you. That is how you would strike a slave or a social inferior. By offering the other cheek, you are basically saying, “I will not retaliate but neither will I allow you to regard me as inferior. If you must strike me, you will punch me as an equal not slap me like a slave.”
From this perspective, the way I read Christ’s question fits quite well. He addressed the guard person to person, questioned him rather than retaliating, and that question was in effect, “where is the justice in what you have done?” That policeman, and Jesus, and everyone else present all knew that the guard was wrong in striking Jesus. Jesus, in turn, made sure everyone knew that the injustice was not unnoticed and that He took exception to it.
Respond:

God, let me be a voice of justice. Even in an illegal, kangaroo court that was a prelude to Your torture and death, You still spoke truth. Help me to live my life following the example You set. When I am wronged, help me not to retaliate, but help me neither to simply roll over and take it thereby devaluing myself, the perpetrator, and the God I serve. Help me to speak rightly and proclaim justice even when I am trapped in the most unjust of situations. In all things let me bring glory to You.

(bron)
